What is the difference between HDS gen2 and Gen3?
One of the main differences between the Gen 2 and Gen 3 (strictly speaking of Touch Units) is you have a keypad on the Gen 3. The other bid difference is the Gen 3 will have CHIRP. This is amazing technology and really clarifies the screen much better than traditional sonar.
Does Lowrance have CHIRP?
Lowrance units that are CHIRP capable include all the Elite CHIRP models, all HDS Gen3 Touch models, and all HDS Gen2 units (with SonarHub). Lowrance users also don’t need to purchase a separate transducer for CHIRP, as the technology is already built in to any Lowrance skimmer transducer.
Is HDS Gen 3 compatible with HDS live?
HDS Gen 3 updated to the lates version of 18.2 (ends with 142) works well with both Carbon and Live. Waypoints synch like you are used to, 2D and maps share like you are used to.
What is the best transducer for Lowrance HDS Gen 2?
The transducer for the LMS-525 is a dual frequency of 50/200 kHz. This would work with either of your new units but ideally you want the PDRT-WBL 83/200 kHz for shooting through the hull.
How do I identify a transducer?
Sometimes an angler needs to identify what model or type of transducer is plugged into their unit. Simply look at the transducer cable, about an inch from the connector. A silver tag is attached to the cable with the transducer model printed on it. For example, see the HST-WSBL transducer in the first image below.
