Are power items better than macho brace?
Power Items are always faster. Macho Brace doubles the EVs you get while the Power Items give you +4. The most any Pokemon can give as its base is +3, so Macho Brace on its own can only give a maximum of +3.
Is the power anklet useless?
But the Power Anklet gives you more EVs, but reduces the actual stat. So yes, if you’re maximized your Speed EVs and hold it, then it reduces your speed. But it’s only to be used to double Speed EVs, then you put in a different item.

A macho brace is not only about training. Since it halves the speed of the pokemon holding it, it is a great item for trick room teams. For training i prefer the power items but in the early game the macho brace is really useful.

How do you increase effort value?

- Start young. You can often max out the EVs by level 20, which leaves the Pokémon free for use in-game; it will also be stronger than normal.
- Don’t lose Pokérus.
- Use vitamins early.
- Count well.
- Count your move PP.
- Spread EVs out a little.
- Maximize HP×Def and/or HP×SpDef.

Does Macho Brace reduce speed permanently?
The Macho Brace is a Held Item that, when held by a Pokémon, doubles the amount of Effort Values it earns from the battle. It’s really, really important to understand that the Speed decrease will not have any permanent effect on the Pokémon holding the Macho Brace.
Does macho brace effect vitamins?
It does not affect effort values gained from vitamins. The Speed stat of the Pokémon holding this item is halved during battle.
