Does USCIS reject opt?
Normally, if your OPT/STEM OPT Extension is rejected, you must file a completely new application with USCIS. If the application is rejected after your filing deadline (the end of the 60-day grace period for OPT; end of the OPT EAD for STEM OPT) refiling would normally be denied.
What happens if EAD card is lost?
If your EAD is lost, stolen or destroyed, you may request a replacement EAD by filing a new Form I-765 and filing fee (if required), unless a fee waiver is requested and approved. If you did not receive an EAD that USCIS mailed, you can submit an inquiry on non-delivery of a card.
Can I work without stem opt receipt?
If you have not received your I-797 that indicates your STEM OPT is pending: F-1 regulations do not require a USCIS receipt nor that the case be in pending status to continue working.

Does EAD get rejected?
If an EAD is denied, the applicant is notified in writing of the decision and the reasons for the denial. There is no appeal of the denial; however, the applicant may submit a motion to reopen or a motion to reconsider, if there is a basis for such a request. Otherwise, it may be possible to refile the EAD.
Can I work if I lost my EAD?
If the EAD is confirmed as lost, file for a replacement. You may start working once you receive your replacement EAD receipt (see #6 below) and after your approved OPT start date (check the USCIS approved OPT start date in your SEVP Portal account).

Can I work on OPT without EAD?
No! Once you complete your degree, you cannot work on campus or off campus until you have the EAD in your possession and your selected start date has arrived. Working before OPT has been authorized by USCIS constitutes illegal employment that will jeopardize your legal status in the United States.
